The Micro Surgery Workshop
The future of reconstructive surgery is being built—one surgeon at a time.
Through Reconstructing Women International, we’ve brought hands-on microsurgery simulation training directly to the next generation of surgeons in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Muhimbili National Hospital) and Nairobi, Kenya (Kenyatta National Hospital).
Using portable 3D-printed microscopes designed by Dr. Samuel Poore at the University of Wisconsin, trainees are able to practice the delicate, life-changing techniques of microsurgery in an accessible, hands-on learning environment.
What makes this so powerful is its reach.
By making microsurgery simulation portable and practical, these workshops help train more surgeons, strengthen local expertise, and expand access to reconstructive care for patients who need it most.
Every stitch practiced today represents a patient who may be helped tomorrow.
Deeply grateful to the faculty, residents, and trainees whose passion, curiosity, and commitment made these workshops so meaningful. The future is in good hands.

Strengthening the Relationship:
March 14th, 2026, marked a truly inspiring moment as Dr. Andrea Pusic of Reconstructing Women International met with the Executive Director of Muhimbili National Hospital, Dar es Salaam, Dr. Delilah Charles Kimambo. Both remarkable advocates for women in healthcare, they officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding, strengthening the partnership between Reconstructing Women International and Muhimbili National Hospital. This agreement reinforces a shared commitment to expanding surgical support and mentorship at Muhimbili -one of the largest public hospitals in Tanzania. There are currently seven surgical residents in the program, and over the past five years the impact has been extraordinary. Together, they have helped drive a meaningful shift -building surgical capacity, strengthening training pathways, and supporting the next generation of surgeons. With a strong focus on improving care for women and girls, Reconstructing Women International and the leadership at Muhimbili are deeply aligned in vision and direction.
This is truly something to Celebrate!
